Unbelievable Catches by RI CAG Member

Brad Trouve, one of our most experienced and knowledgeable carp fishermen in RI and a long time member of the RI CAG, had an unbelievable week. He landed some of the most usual koi I have ever seen. In addition, he also caught a 29.7 lb. common. This is one of the biggest commons ever landed in the state and is just a few pounds shy of the record. It just goes to show some of the terrific carp fishing that RI has to offer. Simply fantastic and congratulations, Brad.

  1. UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but i believe I've read somewhere on your blog that Roger Williams is the best place (or the only place?) to fish for these koi, right? Do they prefer certain different flavors and or maze/boilies/doughballs that I wouldn't usually use to target commons and mirrors?

    Thanks Dave

  2. Koi will hit the exact same baits as carp. Koi are simply mutant common or mirro carp. Yes, RW has some koi. Very few though.

  3. Let me start with saying yes my email name "littlekitty" is silly i've had it for years and I am a female who loves fishing. I live on the small lake where the carp and 4 Koi live in your latest pictures. I am aware that they are considered an invasive species per DEM. But those fish have been in the lake as far back as my grandfather can remember they are a staple to our community and part of my memories at the lake with my family. Against everything DEM says about the species there has always been 4-5 in the lake and our lake flourishes with perch pickerel bass swans ducks geese etc. I know the carp and koi stay in the north side of the lake which is very shallow (4-5 ft deep) and smaller than the rest of the lake. Not to take anything away from you and your catch, but I’ve had those same carp and Koi come right up to my boat and touch them. I just hope that you returned them unharmed back to their home. They would truly be missed since they have been in our neighbor for at least 40 years (with no detrimental impact to the lake or its occupants).I would really miss seeing them every summer. well, happy fishing and good luck (just not that lake) lol. Sorry about the rant I definetly respect your accomplishments and RI carp fishing maybe just not at our small lake its almost like fishing in a backyard Koi pond.
