Photo of the Day...."February Gold"

The gold scales from this mirror shimmer in the water in today's beautiful sunshine.
February carp are a bonus, and this one was the prize of the day!

The First Hundred

Here's a good size common coming ashore
earlier in the week. The fishing has been real
good in this mild winter weather.
According to my logbook, I am now over 100 carp for 2020. This is BY FAR the earliest I have ever been able to reach the hundred mark. Most years I get to the hundred mark by late March, sometimes later.
I credit the warm weather for this unusually good fishing in January and early February.  Every carp venue south of Providence that I know of is ice free, fully open and fishable.  To the north of Providence into MA, some places are open, some are not, but all those spots are quickly opening up. It's like fishing in late March or early April.
Recently, the fish have also been active.  Some of the carp I landed this week really screamed off line on the take and sent the alarms screeching.  They have also been better fighters, a sure sign that the waters are warming and the fish's metabolism is perking up.
My hot bait continues to be a combo bait of one kernel of sweet corn and a white artificial corn on the hair rig. I have also been using a small method ball around my sinker.
